Ranelagh Primary School – Safeguarding Statement
At Ranelagh Primary School, the safety, wellbeing and welfare of every child is at the heart of our school community. We are committed to providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment in which all children are respected, listened to and supported to achieve their full potential.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. We expect all members of our school community, including governors, staff, volunteers, visitors, parents and carers, to share this commitment and to play their part in keeping children safe.
All staff and volunteers are subject to the appropriate safer recruitment and safeguarding checks required for their role. Where appropriate, this includes Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks and other pre-employment checks before an individual begins working with children.
Safeguarding training is provided to staff as part of their induction and is updated regularly. All staff are expected to understand their safeguarding responsibilities and to read and follow the relevant sections of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and Ranelagh Primary School’s safeguarding policies and procedures.
Our staff are trained to recognise signs that a child may be experiencing abuse, neglect, exploitation or other forms of harm. This includes concerns relating to children’s safety and wellbeing both in school and online. Staff understand that safeguarding concerns can arise in many different circumstances and that children may communicate concerns directly, indirectly or through changes in their behaviour or presentation.
Everyone working in or visiting our school is expected to report safeguarding concerns promptly through the school’s established procedures. Staff know who the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Deputy DSLs are and understand how to report a concern if they believe a child may be at risk of harm.
Ranelagh Primary School recognises that safeguarding includes protecting children from a wide range of risks, including abuse and neglect, child-on-child abuse, bullying and harassment, online harm, exploitation, domestic abuse, sexual violence and sexual harassment, and other forms of harm that may affect children.
We maintain appropriate safeguarding records, share information responsibly when this is necessary to protect a child, and work closely with parents, carers and relevant safeguarding partners and agencies where concerns arise.
We are committed to creating a culture in which children feel safe, are listened to, know how to seek help and are confident that adults will take their concerns seriously.
Our safeguarding arrangements are reviewed regularly to ensure that they reflect current legislation, statutory guidance and good safeguarding practice, including Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026 and Working Together to Safeguard Children 2026.
